Office 001

Here are some thoughts on how to arrange the office. It is only 12 m2 and it is pretty tough to choose what furniture to put there. Such shortage of space pushes me to be more creative. Maybe some sliding bookshelf-doors will look good there. Maybe some glass block walls. Maybe thick curtains. Or maybe just a bunk bed, one fully “bookshelfed” wall, a small desk and a sofa would work like a charm. I don’t know.
Sometimes I even think of putting old time navy hammocks. But that I think will not fit neither Nepali, nor Lithuanian, nor any other culture. I think it is equally uncomfortable for all.
What I really like about this “office project” is the fact that I can do everything as I design it. Not to say that I am ulimited in funds, but to emphasize that people here are really skilled and are able to do all that you sketch for them on paper.

My priorities for the office are:

A. A good desk. A chair. Essential stationery.
B. Functional working space. Everything – books, documents, magazines, gadgets all have to be within an easy reach.
C. Right atmosphere. The lighting, the colors, the contrasts, the overall composition of the furniture and space have to plead: “Work till you have time.”
D. It has to be inexpensive solution. No red wood. No Björkqvist desk or bookshelves. No collectible ships, golden fishes or other luxury.
E. It has to have space for at least 2000 books. I will think on how to get them later.
F. I would like wooden floor, but it can be just carpet. I would like to have a table integrated into bookshelves, but it can be a small one Nepali style. I would like to have a Vesa mount for my IBM tablet, wireless keyboard, matte lamp lighting integrated into the bookshelves, desk lamp and at least one sliding bookshelf or a sliding door but I will be happy without all those with a default regular table, simple bookshelf and some curtains instead of sliding doors.
G. I wanted to find a way to fill that office with books.
H. I wanted to find a way to put a small (even portable)sound booth and a modded Oktava MK-105 or MK-319 microphone.
I. I wanted to make the room more sound proof.
J. I wanted to make some sort of ventilation in the room as well. All of the last ones are of the least priority. A good desk and a chair are of paramount importance. All other things can be missing, but a good desk should be there. Two days ago I was so sad that I had to pay to my dentist the very same amount I would have paid for a good desk. That was a grievous experience indeed. Nevertheless I hope I will find a good desk later.
In my minds eye I see bookshelves filled with Russian, English, Nepali books. Everything is warm, wooden and brownish. It is noticeably more silent yet the sound in the room is not too “dead”. The room is cosy and comfortable. We sit with friends on the sofa and talk about Christian radio programs broadcasting. The tea is great. The bisquits are delicious. There is peace, laughter and the smell of creativity in the air.

Later on I plan to scan my sketches of bookshelves and the office and put them here. For now, I am going to pray and to sleep. Tomorrow we are heading to the church. New day, new bunk beds, new challenges, new tooth ache, new blessings – I love it!

Oh, dear Lord, bless us with a new furnished office room! I put my trust in Thee. Keep us in Thy fear. Be the abiding portion of all Thy blood people both now and forever more. Amen!
